Madelyn Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Story
Madelyn's Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Story
"We first discovered that Madelyn had Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) when I was 30 weeks pregnant. Waiting for her arrival was challenging, knowing that she may not survive. But during that time and upon the birth of our beautiful baby, we experienced the skill and dedication of both the NICU and labor and delivery teams.
Babies with CDH have a very unique journey because they have so many different obstacles to overcome — some taking longer than others. We heard more that once that the babies themselves 'dictate the care. ' We also learned to take every little miracle and celebrate it. Small steps might seem insignificant but they add up. All of the machines, medication and surgery that these babies endure is no easy feat. It was our task to remain optimistic even when Madelyn took a step backward on her way to recovery.
Madelyn stayed at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children for 32 days. While each and every day was a journey, we are thankful that we had such an experienced and loving team to help make sure that our baby girl made it home!! Madelyn is now a happy and healthy four-month old who no longer needs medication or supplemental oxygen. We owe great thanks to the team at RMHC for saving our daughter’s life."
