K. Brooke Pengel, M.D., is a board-certified pediatric sports medicine specialist with a decade of experience devoted to treating youth sports injuries. In July 2010, Dr. Pengel proudly joined the Rocky Mountain Youth Sports Medicine Institute, an affiliate of Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, as Medical Director of the youth sports medicine program.
Prior to joining RMHC, Dr. Pengel pioneered the sports medicine program at the Children’s Hospital in Denver. Dr. Pengel's directorship at the Children's Hospital fostered a nationally recognized sports medicine program. As a result of her dedication to the field of sports medicine and her efforts in developing a nationally recognized program, Dr. Pengel was recognized by her peers in 2009 as a “Top Doctor” in the field of Sports Medicine (as published in 5280 Magazine).
John Polousky, MD

Dr. Polousky is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who is subspecialty certified in sports medicine. Dr. Polousky is fellowship-trained in pediatric orthopedics and has completed further post-residency training in orthopedic sports medicine. He currently serves as the surgical director for the Rocky Mountain Youth Sports Medicine Institute, an affiliate of Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.
Dr. Polousky earned his medical degree from the University of Southern California and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He then completed a pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at The Children’s Hospital, a pediatric orthopedic surgery mini-fellowship in limb deformity surgery at the International Center for Limb Lengthening at Baltimore’s Sinai Hospital and additional training in orthopedic sports medicine at the University of Colorado.

Karen McAvoy, Psy.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist and the director of the Center for Concussion at the Rocky Mountain Youth Sports Medicine Institute.
Dr. McAvoy graduated with a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Denver and went on to complete a pediatric psychology internship at the Children's Hospital in Denver and an adult/pediatric behavioral medicine post-doctorate fellowship at Farren Memorial Hospital in Massachusetts. She has 20+ years of experience both as a clinical psychologist and as a school psychologist.

Kris Geiger, MD, is a fellowship-trained pediatric sports medicine doctor who is board certified in pediatrics and sports medicine. She has been practicing pediatric sports medicine in Denver since 1997 and holds the honor of being the first pediatric sports medicine specialist in Denver.
A former soccer player, Dr. Geiger remains active in the athletic community. She is the team physician for various high schools in Denver and regularly lectures to physicians, coaches, sports trainers and parent groups about injury prevention, common sports injuries in kids, and related topics. In 2002, Dr. Geiger was named a "Top Doctor" in Sports Medicine (by 5280 Magazine).
Sue Kirelik, MD

Sue Kirelik, MD, is a pediatric emergency physician at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children. She is the medical director for pediatric emergency services and the chair of the department of pediatrics for Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at Sky Ridge Medical Center. Dr. Kirelik graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine and went on to complete a pediatric residency at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She did a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Children's Hospital, Oakland in California. She is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine.
Dr. Kirelik developed an emergency department-based concussion program at Sky Ridge in 2006. The program is now being expanded to include all eight of the HealthONE emergency departments. When not busy cheering on the sidelines for her three kids she is puttering in her garden.
