High-Risk Pregnancies Are Our Specialty Every day we bring new lives into the world. Miracles happen. Lives are saved. Families comforted in good times and difficult times. At the Center for Maternal-Fetal Care at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center and Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at P/SL in Denver, Colorado, we offer the region's most experienced high-risk pregnancy care, with specialized care for newborns. Self Magazine named Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center as one of the "Top 10 Hospitals Nationwide to Have a Baby." And Fit Pregnancy magazine named Rich Porreco, MD, Medical Director for the Center for Maternal-Fetal Care, as one of the top five obstetricians in the country. Nearly 30 years ago, we created the Maternal-Fetal Center with the goals of preventing premature births, caring and treating complications in mothers and their babies, and helping to ensure the safety and health of each mother and her fetus. We are a long-time supporter of March of Dimes and share their mission: "We are dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality," says Richard Porreco, MD. Because we also care for women with high-risk pregnancies, we are dedicated to meeting their special medical and emotional needs. We strive to be responsive to the needs of each patient, as well as the needs of their family and referring physician. At the Center for Maternal-Fetal Care, our team of maternal-fetal specialists (also known as perinatal specialists — perinatal means before and after birth) maintains a high level of communication between referring physicians, patients and their families. It's our way of ensuring the continuity of care that is essential for the well-being of the patient and her family. Preparing families for a high-risk delivery is a top priority at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center and Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at P/SL. Whenever possible, parents meet one-on-one with our neonatologists and the appropriate subspecialists and tour the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in advance. Prior to delivery, neonatologists and perinatologists work closely with each patient to ensure the best outcome for both mother and baby — or babies if she is having multiples (twins, triplets, quadruplets). Our Center for Neonatal Care is covered around the clock 24/7 by on-site, board certified neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners. They have access to the top minds in:
